Vrelo is an exquisite domestic brandy produced by the Destico distillery from Ljubovija (Western Serbia), and at the beginning of 2020 I received an invitation from the designer and art director Nemanja Jehlička to participate in the establishing of their visual identity. I was commissioned to take photos that would be used primarily on the distillery’s official website.
I enjoyed working on this project since the assignment wasn’t to photograph the product itself, nor the packaging, but the nature surrounding the distillery, the local architecture and life, the ambience and finally the process of brandy production: the arrival of the fruit, its processing and brandy roasting. This is why I traveled to Ljubovija on several occasions and spent time in it, while also going to the surrounding mountains and to the banks of the Drina river.
The opportunity to make the photographs meant I could contribute to the excellent design and branding that Nemanja created. I was able to freely bring together my established visual language and way of working with the brand’s identity – the two finally blended with a balanced, like-minded whole, consequently presented to the audience.
